How to ever select a sofa when there are so many options? I think the tufted version from Lee Industries with the turned legs is the same seen in Designer Caitlin Wilson's recent project. Not what I would pick on my own, but after seeing it incorporated into such a great room I am beginning to see the potential. I think I'll take one of each please!
Brooks and I celebrated our 3rd Anniversary yesterday! I can't believe we have been married for three years already. I was even more surprised when he shouted "happy first day of the 4th year" this morning on his way out the door. It is scary how quickly we went from 3 to 4.
We both tried to find fabulous leather gifts for each other, but in the end we decided to "give" each other a new sofa. Once we find a new sofa for the front living room, we can move our comfy mint tinted velvet sofa to the family room. Now begins the sofa search. This image from Ethan Allen is inspiring me... Something tells me White Upholstery isn't the best idea, but it is so modern looking. Modern isn't normally my style, but I want to steer clear of too many antiques since our house is a little "antique" itself.
Here are a few pictures of the room we are looking to fill with new furniture. It is roughly 9 x 12 so there should be plenty of room to have two sofas in conversation setting like the EA room above.
I was delighted to re-discover Windsor Smith's fabulous upholstery. I am positively captured by the geranium pink Chloe sofa. I will be dreaming about this sofa for months...
I go back and forth between thinking these doorknobs are too over-the-top fancy to thinking they are just the right touch of sparkle that our home needs. After flipping through countless design sites (how come they never photograph the functional components of a home such as knobs and vents?) I think these antique inspired knobs can work with the modern glamour look I have in mind for our decor. We will need four sets for bedroom doors, 1 for the master bath, 1 for the bathroom in the hall plus sets for the two closets (one in the entry way and one off the family room.) I am thinking Polished Nickel for the bedrooms/hallway and 1 brass for the coat closet.
This was my first "dream kitchen." I cam across this photo while searching the PointClick Home image files in 2008. At the time, I didn't know how to save the file, so I just left my browser open for days on end, slowing my 2005 macbook to a crawl. The mix of woodwork and sleek white subway tiles with stainless appliances seemed like heaven compared to our tiny apartment kitchen with laminate counters. I also loved the idea of hardwood floors in the kitchen, since my parents have tile and I know how painful that can be to stand on while cooking. The stools look inviting for guests to sit at the bar during food prep and I love the under-cabinet lighting. Plus, I already have the pink Kitchen Aid mixer. For months, this was my favorite kitchen. Until...
Elizabeth Kimberly Designs. This kitchen is from the same home I posted on in February. There are many similarities to my first dream kitchen, the flush cabinet doors, the lighting, a soft gray palette and hardwood floors, but this one has something more. Marble, yes that is what really makes a difference. The substantial heavily veined marble counters are amazing! Not to mention the shiny wood floors that are in every room of this beautiful house. Finally, the upholstered chair at the dining table and the wall of windows helped win me over. This is definitely Dream Kitchen #2!
Alas, Dream Kitchen #3. After spending a weekend at my parent's home and watching non-stop HGTV/Sarah's House on their satellite, I went to check out designer Sarah Richardson's online portfolio. I kept coming back to this photograph and that is when it hit me...This kitchen is so similar to my "dream kitchens!" Slightly more realistic for some reason, perhaps a more true-to-life mix of colors. Despite my best efforts, I am unable to stop other colors (like the lime drapes here) from seeping into rooms that are supposed to be one singular color scheme. Three pendants over the island, beautiful white cabinetry, and arched windows letting in tons of natural light all add to the list of reasons why I want a dream kitchen!
I am really a want-to-be interior designer and my farmer husband has no input on this blog whatsoever, but he does make great smoothies for me while I type.
